Story
To our family and friends across the globe,
Thank you for taking time to visit our family's JustGiving page for Tess in aid of St Nicholas Hospice and Universal Chance.
St Nicholas hospice holds a special place in all our hearts, as it did with Tess who loved spending time with others facing similar medical challenges to her, sharing with them her love, hope and laughter each occasion she visited. She especially enjoyed being pampered, eating their delicious cuisine chatting and laughing with the wonderful staff including the diverse pastoral team. St Nicholas’ work is truly remarkable and their unflinching care helped Tess and our family through her terminal illness.
Compassion, Listen, Team Spirit, Learn & Resilience are the 5 core values of St Nicholas and every one of these resonate strongly within our family and everything Tess stood for. A lady who always showed compassion for those in her life, an avid listener to all, an incredible team player to the bitter end (65 years of wedded bliss is more than testament!) an indomitable spirit with a passion to learn (the use of Whatsapp, Facetime and keeping up with the news on line at 89 years old is no mean feat) and finally Tess truly was was one remarkably resilient woman whom we all miss so much.
Tess also spent many happy years as a loving, caring, and passionate teacher in a couple schools during her time in India and the family feel it is fitting to also make a donation to an extremely worthwhile cause, Universal Chance. This small but significant charity started raising money in Uganda in 2012 to rebuild a local school and make it a sustainable and safe learning environment for less fortunate children. The charity has raised over £50,000 plus to date, which has helped with extensive repairs and renovations - from floor tiles, repairs to a collapsed ceiling, new windows and paint work to building new toilet blocks.
