Story
I was told not to make a big fuss - sorry Mum but did you really expect for me to do as I’m told?
My Mum, Tricia Bennett, is my biggest inspiration. She always puts the needs of others before her own; whether that’s with the 42 years of being a registered nurse, helping the people she cares about or simply making every effort to give me and my brother Luke the best in life. She never stops.
Until now. As an NHS worker, she has been on the frontline trying to battle this horrendous virus. She, along with so many others, risked her life each day to save others. Now, she lies on a hospital bed by herself (we are unable to visit for obvious reasons), struggling to breathe and fighting for her life. You know something is wrong with Tricia when she can’t even gather the strength to talk. That woman can natter for hours (sorry if you’re reading this in the future Mum, but it’s true)).
My Mum has always been a fighter (she’s one of the Harris sisters after all), but I know that she hates not being able to help. I’ve made a charity page in my Mum’s name, to donate towards the NHS and their workers. They urgently need help, so that they can continue to help us. Please, even if it is only a small contribution, consider donating. If not for my Mum, do it for the other NHS workers. Do it for those who also lay fighting for their lives in hospital beds, away from their loved ones. Do it for amazing people like Aimee O'Rourke, a Nurse at QEQM who tragically lost her life trying to save others. Do it for tens of thousands of people who lost their battle to the virus.
Finally, do me a favour and give your loved ones a hug for me (if you are at home with them). All I want to do is give my Mum a hug, so please don’t waste your chance.
#ThankyouTricia
*Update*
Unfortunately, my Mum lost her battle to COVID-19 on May 1st. The world will be the lesser without her. I love you Mum x
