Welcome to The Hygiene Bank's ITS IN THE BAG Christmas appeal 2021. We are working to support those experiencing hygiene poverty this Christmas. Please donate to help us ensure everyone has access to the basics they need to keep clean this Christmas.

Story

At The Hygiene Bank, we believe it is not right that feeling clean should be a luxury or a privilege for anyone in our society, yet many are living in poverty and cannot afford to stay clean.

What Are The Funds For? The funds raised will be used to fill individual bags with toiletries and pamper products to give to women, men, children and babies experiencing hygiene poverty this Christmas.

The Need For Help Is Growing.. This is the 3rd year that The Hygiene Bank Hampton has run this Christmas initiative and the bags have been so gratefully recieved. We made a whopping 369 bags for Christmas 2020 - and 165 bags for Christmas 2019!

What Impact Do The Bags Make? Our local charity partners who give them out to those in need tell us how great it helps the recipients feel to recieve a bag of pampering treats at a time when they may not be able to even afford a new toothbrush or buy Christmas gifts for their family. Feeling clean and cared for helps us all feel good, especially at Christmas!

£5 to £500... Every single donations, no matter how big or small, makes a BIG difference.

Want To Get More Hands On? In addition to raising funds to create bags, I am encouraging donations of bags you have made up yourself too!

So if you'd like to fill your own bag to donate, here's what to do:

Step 1. Choose a bag you no longer use that is in good condition, like a tote bag, rucksack or a gift bag. Decide who the bag is for (woman, man, child or baby) and write this on a gift tag to tie onto the bag.

Step 2. Fill it up with toiletries - beauty, grooming and hygiene essentials (new, unused and in-date); everyday items such as deodorant, shampoo, period products and shaving gear. Add a little luxury treat such as makeup, fragrance or skincare.

Step 3. Take the filled bag (or bags!) to our dedicated local Christmas Bag Drop Off Point:

Dexters Estate Agents, 93 Station Road, Hampton, TW12 2BD.

DEADLINE: 30th November 2021. I will regularly be collecting all the donated bags from Dexters and delivering them to get to those in need before Christmas.

Thank you for your support!

About The Hygiene Bank

We are a grassroots, people-powered charity and social movement, grounded in community. Our passion stems from the injustice that people may be unable to fully participate in society due to hygiene poverty. This is why we work to inspire social change. Many people locked in poverty or those who find themselves in times of crisis often experience restricted options. This leaves them caught between being able to heat their home, pay their rent, buy food or keep clean. Hygiene poverty can be shaming, humiliating and excluding and can result in social isolation. That is why our network of projects exists to give people access to the basics they need.

Everyone deserves to feel clean, yet millions of people in the UK today are going without the hygiene basics - such as shower gel, toothpaste and deodorant - that so many of us take for granted. With your support, we will reach more of those who are disproportionately affected by hygiene poverty.
