Story
This page is set up to honour and continue Baraka Khan's fundraising with Macmillan Cancer Research. Throughout her illness, she worked closely with Macmillan to raise awareness and funds by doing charity walks and Macmillan Coffee Mornings. Macmillan was a charity close to Baraka’s heart. We want to continue her legacy by making a difference in other people’s lives who are fighting similar battles.
Below is a small part of Baraka’s story, in her own words. We hope you will take comfort and inspiration in reading.
There are so many great causes in the world (and so many excellent just-giving pages!), so thank you for taking the time to visit and support mine. It means a lot to me.
One of the nicest things I've discovered since my diagnosis is that we are rarely alone when we reach out to others.
Certainly, it's true that there are parts of this illness that are very lonely - the dark hours late at night and early in the morning were not always friends to me, and while my family and friends have supported me through my physical weakness and sickness, they cannot share that experience with me.
And yet I am sometimes moved to tears remembering the narration of the blessed Prophet Muhammad, where he recounts the words of God:
"O son of Adam, I fell ill and you visited Me not.
He will say: Did you not know that My servant had fallen ill and you visited him not? Did you not know that had you visited him you would have found Me with him?"
One of the most oft-repeated names of God in Islam is ar-Rahman, the Lord of Mercy - and this narration reminds me that He is always with me.
And so do you - for having taken the time to give so generously, reflecting that divine attribute of mercy and compassion.
With my prayers and very best wishes,
Baraka Khan
