The Big Golf Race 2023 · 31 December 2023 ·
Brett Slapper’s Fantasy League Managers Association Charity Golf Day
1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in the UK. That’s thousands of dads, brothers, partners, grandads, mates, sons and uncles. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
On June 16th 2023, a number of very swing rusty ‘golfers’ (by the loosest possible definition of the word) and a handful of ringers, who will show the others exactly how it’s done, will be taking on The Big Golf Race Half Marathon in aid of Prostate Cancer UK raising money to help fund research that could save thousands of lives.
These once fine figures of men will be taking on 36 holes in a single day, when at least one of them hasn’t even picked up their clubs in 10 years, other than when moving house. For some this challenge might be only slightly taxing, for others it may be necessary to have an oxygen tent near the 18th green or even to have St John Ambulance in attendance, or at the very least, on speed-dial.
Not only that, but as they attempt to plot their way round the allegedly quite challenging Macclesfield Golf Course without receiving scowling glances from both the members and the greenkeepers alike, they will be fined for a variety of golfing misdemeanours with all fines donated to Prostate Cancer UK.
In addition, we have some very kind benefactors who have agreed to sponsor the Par 3 holes with every hole-in-one (never going to happen), every ball played to within a club’s length of the pin (possible for only a couple of golfers, if we’re brutally honest) and every ball landed on the green (bit more likely with a fair wind and a slice of luck) resulting in a donation of £100, £50 and £20 respectively.
BUT we need your help. As our friends, family and followers YOU can make such a difference to how much we can collectively raise. Whatever you can donate will help save lives. Thank you.
