Beacon Centre for the Blind was established over 145 years ago with a purpose of supporting people with sight loss to live fuller, more independent lives. Covering the Black Country & Staffordshire our activity centres host well-being activities & programmes, talking news & employment opportunities.

Story

In March 2011 Beacon Centre for the Blind trustee, James Fernihough will be taking on his biggest ever challenge as he attempts to set a world record by lifting 250 tonnes in 24 hours. As if that wasn’t difficult enough throughout the 24 hours , James will use his legs, arms, back and chest to lift a targeted amount of weight each hour, totaling 250 tonnes. By the end of the day James will have lifted the equivalent of 50 elephants.
