Story
Hey guys, Its funky Lou here. As you are probably aware I am fast approaching my 40th birthday :/ and what a better way to celebrate then a 10k run (I must need my head looking at).
As you know my little boy Darnell James (DJ Bear) lost his fight to meningicoccal septicemia (A type of meningitis). I would like to share this story and ask that you guys please spend a couple of moments to read.
A mothers greatest achievement is the gift of life....................... An unexplainable love and a bond that cannot be broken, like a lioness with her cubs you would protect your baby with your life.
That's how I felt on the 26th September 1997 when out little boy was born Darnell James Jarvis Jacobs.
''Our DJ Bear''
Our angel, a truly beautiful happy little boy, who always smiled and loved the camera, An adored by his brother and sister. We had a perfect year with a perfect boy. But that joy turned to panic when on the 13th October 1998 just 2week and 3days after his 1st birthday, Darnell became ill and within hours he had the shakes, blue lips, poor circulation, yellow skin, stiffness at time, raised fontanelle and blood spots. Which the doctor at A&E diagnosed as a none specific rash and a viral infection. I remember taking my baby's dummy out of his mouth and asking the doctor to smell it ''Can you not smell that? He's dying. My baby is Dying'' Even after this the doctor insisted that he still only had a viral infection and to take him home or take him to the children's hospital if it made me feel better.
The clock was ticking as we drove to Rochdale Children's Hospital. As soon as we walked through the door we was greeted by a nurse who instantly took my baby off me and rushed him away.
The doctors and nurses worked tirelessly but the infection had rapidly progressed and our little soldier couldn't fight any longer. This is the moment our world fell apart, even to this day we struggle to cope and get over the trauma of losing our little DJ Bear.
My aim is to turn this tragic event into something positive and to show Darnell James, that mummy is fighting strong too help raise awareness about meningitis and all of its symptoms so that no other families have to go through what we had to go through.
Soooo you lovely people, instead of the diamonds, pink cars and designer clothes how about just make a donation to my charity. It doesn't matter how big or small it may be, it will make a difference and the idea of knowing that couldn't come as a better present.
Ohh and you better be ready to cheer me along on my 10k run its all for a good cause.
Much Love
Funky Lou
