Everest Challenge · 25 April 2020

We mobilize philanthropy to strengthen the ability of communities to withstand disasters and recover equitably when they occur. Since 2010, CDP has helped individuals, foundations and corporations increase the effectiveness of their philanthropic response to disasters and humanitarian crises.

Story

Belik and I (Mitch Summers) just climbed Mount Everest!

Over 57,500 Stairs.

2871 Stories.

Up a 33 story building 86 times.

Essentially, we went from sea level to 29,029ft/8,848m.

NOW it's your turn:

  1. Climb 25 floors

  2. Donate $25

  3. Challenge 5 people

WHY? This climb is more than just physical effort. It's about belief. That even when times get tough, we can overcome them.

Together we will beat Covid-19 and TOGETHER we will get to the top of our own Mt. Everest!

Why Center for Disaster Philanthropy?

  • 4 Stars on Charity Navigator

  • They're doing amazing things to fight Covid-19, help people affected by the virus, and they are supporting people on the front lines.

Their Strategy:

CARE's COVID-19 prevention strategy – building on existing programming and strong local relationships – includes:

  • Prepositioning essential supplies like soap, disinfectants, medication and protective wear.
  • Providing clean water and promoting safe hygiene and sanitation – including access to water supplies, storage containers, handwashing stations, etc.
  • Educating and empowering caregivers and frontline health workers – most of them women.
  • Communicating accurate information to counter misinformation and rumors.
  • Providing food and other necessities – particularly in the event of supply chain breakdown

CARE’s focus on women and girls during the COVID-19 pandemic is vitally important. Experience tells us that during health crises like the spread of the coronavirus:

  • Women are more likely to be infected, given their roles as caregivers and frontline healthcare workers (70% of whom are women).
  • Women are less likely than men to have decision-making power, leaving their needs unmet.
  • Sexual and reproductive health resources are diverted, contributing to higher maternal mortality rates.

From Belik and I, we thank you!

We will get through this together!
