Story

Monte Carlo or Bust

In May 2012 I will be starting my engine for an enduring drive across some of the greatest driving roads of Europe to raise much needed funds for The Haven Centre in Blantyre to celebrate the centres 10 Birthday!.

Susan Hampshire (actress) starts the Rally in Surrey on the 6th May 2012 were thirty-five cars take the drive through France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and then to the finish line in Monaco where Murray Walker awaits with the Chequered Flag.

My entry into the Rally is fully funded by me and every penny I raise through sponsorship & donations will go straight to The Haven Centre. I really need your support to help me raise much needed funds to  enable this very special charity to keep making a real difference to the lives of those who turn to The Haven for support at a very difficult time in their lives.

Since The Haven opened in May 2002 it has helped over 5400 families and their carers throughout Lanarkshire. All their support services are provided free of charge and your very kind donation will go towards the £30,000 needed every month to enable The Haven to continue to provide much needed physical, emotional and practical support to individuals and their family members whose lives have been affected by various life limiting illnesses, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis motor neurone disease and Parkinson’s disease either at the centre in Blantyre or in their home.

Like me most of you will know how difficult it is to address the personal distress and loneliness experienced when you are told of a loved ones diagnosis. The complex emotional and physical challenges of adjusting to the progressive decline in the health and mobility or the bereavement of a loved one can take its toll not only on an individual but on the whole family and those closest to that person. Children can also can be adversely affected by this and The Haven’s activity based, peer support programme, is specially designed to help children build their self-belief, resilience and courage to enable them to express themselves freely and unconditionally and help them reduce the social, emotional and physical isolation they often feel during these very difficult times.

Client quote;

“The Haven is a place of emotional and spiritual calm; a healing sanctuary for the body, mind and soul. The Haven staff and volunteers all contribute to make it these things and more. They are listeners, guides, helpers and friends”
