Story
UPDATE - see the messages below for a race update and THANK YOU!
Two and a half years ago I ran across a desert for the Orchid Project and raised over £5,000 to help end Female Genital Cutting (FGC).
This year, between the 14 - 16th December I will be running 44 times non-stop up and down the side of Whernside in Ingleton, the highest of the three peaks of the Yorkshire Dales. That's 160 miles and 10,000m (update: actually over 12,000m+) of elevation - the equivalent of Everest base camp to summit (and back)...twice.
Two thirds of the running will be in the dark, up on the exposed side of the hill. The race starts at 7pm Friday and ends 7pm Sunday. Stop for more than 30 minutes and you are disqualified.
This event is designed to break you both physically and mentally. This really is at the extreme limit of what I am capable of. I'd actually take the desert on again any day! :-)
Please help support me in raising money for Orchid. I met the founder of the charity when we worked together as volunteers in Ethiopia over ten years ago and have seen the small charity do big things as it advocates the ending of FGC across global communities (including those in the UK) where this practice still happens.
