Story
On 1st April 2023 Tom and Jen will attempt to run, walk and probably crawl 50km in the EASTER 50 CHALLENGE to raise money for HASAG Asbestos Disease Support.
We will join 1,500 adventurers and head out from Windsor Racecourse base camp on looped routes through the Berkshire countryside. The furthest either of us has ever run is a half marathon (21km) so it’s safe to say this will be a challenge. But one we are determined to smash … bring on the blisters!
Why are we taking on this challenge?
Sadly Tom's Dad, Rob, passed away in December 2022 after being diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, a type of cancer that develops in the lining that covers the outer surface of the lung. This type of cancer is most commonly linked to asbestos exposure. Like so families that are living through a similar situation, the pain and upset cancer has caused our family is extremely difficult to manage.
We can't show enough gratitude to those who have supported Rob and our family on this difficult journey. Since his initial diagnosis in April 2022, we have received incredible support from HASAG.
HASAG is a charity dedicated to helping people suffering from asbestos-related diseases and their families. Their support has included home visits, help and advice on benefits and compensation and a monthly support group coffee mornings. The team at HASAG have been there for our family at the most difficult of times and we want to support them so they can help other families going through a similar situation, and of course, raise awareness of asbestos-related diseases.
We know times are tough, so only if you can, please sponsor us to take on this challenge, we won’t let you down!
Thank you so much.
Love,
Tom and Jen x
