Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit The Perry's JustGiving page.
Those of you who know me know I love an adventure and those of you who don't; have probably heard about me from my Dad (he's my biggest fan). I love to be outside and mountain walking has fast become my favourite thing, I was recently the youngest Beaver in 5th Rotherham Scout Club to reach level 5 in my Hiking Activity.
Why am I doing this? My big Sister Lily-Mae was born on 25th March 2010, this should have been a day of celebration but instead it was a day of fear and heartbreak.
Lily was born with a Left Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, (a hole in her Diaphragm). The hole meant that Lily's internal organs hadn't grown correctly. Her intestines were in her lungs and her lungs and heart was being squashed every time she tried to breathe. She underwent an operation at 72 hours, survival rate - 60%.
The operation was successful but it was yet to be seen if she would recover and she spent over 2 weeks in Intensive Care, followed by 4 weeks in High Dependency and Special Care.
Against the odds, Lily recovered and 10 years later we get to go to school together, swim, play, do Thai boxing and have an amazing and happy life. My Sister has also climbed all 3 of the UK National Peaks - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon. None of this would have been possible without the skill and amazing dedication of the doctors, nurses and surgeons at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Lily had a team of the most amazing doctors and nurses caring for her and monitoring her 24/7. They managed to fix something that was very badly broken and saved my Sisters life.
And that is why I want to give something back.
What are we doing? I've already climbed Snowdon and Scafell Pike this year but I wanted to do something with my Sister. So Me, my Big Sis and my Dad are going to attempt to climb all 3 mountains in 3 days. Up to Scotland for Ben Nevis, to England for Scafell Pike the next day and finishing in Wales with Snowdon.
3 Days - 23 Miles Hiking - 3064 Metre Ascent - 966 Miles Driving
We thought this was way too big an event not to do it for an amazing cause and raise money and awareness for the people who provided Mummy and Daddy with mountains of support when their world was turned upside down and whose skills and dedication gave me a sibling who I admire and love to annoy :-)
How you can help! Please sponsor me and help ensure that this hospital not only receive the awareness that they deserve but also a contribution to the comfort and security of the children in their care.
Many Thanks and High Fives in Advance
