Chris's Chris' 2018 Challenges

Chris' 2018 Challenges · 4 March 2018
My story is, like many others who get involved in fundraising for charities, one of being personally affected. My wife Vanessa, and our three children, Georgina, Cameron and Finlay, lost their Dad and Gramps (Mike Gulliver) to the awful Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Mike was diagnosed in November 2012 and the effects of the disease were rapid and in a short period of time he went from being a fit, active and healthy man in his late fifties, to being in a wheelchair, unable to walk, use his arms and who relied on his wife and family to provide care for him by the time he turned 60. He sadly died on 7th October 2013 with his family around him.
Since 2013 I have been fundraising for the MND Association. I have fundraiser through in the main running, starting with the Great South in 2013, leading on the half-marathon in 2014 and my fist marathons and ultra-marathons in 2015. I have now run many marathons and ultra-marathons. I have also completed Tough Mudder events. I have also organised quiz nights, cake sales, football prediction events, collections and my main event of an ‘Evening with Dame Sarah Storey’, together with a sports auction. More recently I have become a fundraiser for the South Wilts Group.
With my fundraising I have pushed myself, as above starting with 10 miles of the Great South, which I now do in fancy dress as a unicorn, to a half-marathons and now marathons and ultras, including running 100 miles in 22:40:43.
So for 2018 I will be looking to challenge myself again.
