Story
Helen, Catherine, Julie and Phoebe are 'The Mulberries' - a crew participating in The Great River Race, London's water marathon.
At 11am on Saturday, 5th September, the starting cannon will be fired from the sailing barge 'Adieu' moored in the Thames opposite The Royal Naval College at Greenwich. About 15 minutes later we will take the first of many strokes as we embark on our 22mile race to Ham House, near Richmond. The start is staggered on handicap, the smallest (us) go first and the fastest may not start until about 1 1/2 hours later; the first over the finishing line wins.
Our trusty skiff, 'Lensbury 15', will once again fly the flag of The Mulberry Centre, a support and information centre for people affected by cancer. It is based in West London. We will be in the company of about 300 other boats, ranging from small skiffs (us) to racing skiffs, dragon boats, Viking longboats and many more from all over the world. It is an amazing spectacle.
