We are a Winchester based voluntary organisation, founded over 20 years ago to offer accessible and professional counselling to over 18s and couples. We have 40 volunteer counsellors providing long term therapy to those who need it, as well as short term counselling to anyone who wants to discuss personal issues in confidence. 

In 2019 we supported 342 new clients through long term counselling, and we aim to double that in 2021. 

Every day we see clients with a wide variety of issues, such as anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement, anger, suicidal thoughts, addiction, domestic violence, etc. A large percentage of our clients are self-referred, and a very similar proportion are referred by their GPs.

In order to carry on delivering this valuable service we need to raise a minimum of £25,000 a year. 

Where does our money come from?

• 79% From client’s donations (this can be as low as £1)
• 9% From individuals
• 6% Fundraising events and small grants
• 6% Churches
• <1% Local council

£100?

A donation of £100 can provide 9 hours of therapy to someone who might otherwise have nowhere to turn. This can provide an individual with support and confidence they need to make better choices; to step back from hopelessness; to begin to believe in themselves; to start to make changes; to move forward not backwards…

£100 will also pay for 2 group sessions of supervision. Each group provides 4 counsellors with the support they need to deliver up to 16 hours of therapy. This means that 32 clients will receive the help they need in a given week.

Mental Health affects us all at some stage in our lives, either directly or indirectly – perhaps a family member, a colleague or a friend. While awareness is growing, so is the gap between the need and the provision of professional support. The Olive Branch exists to bridge that gap by providing support, regardless of religion, gender, sexual orientation, ability or financial situation, etc. 

We are continuing to grow a community of qualified counsellors, who can use their skills to help others both inside, and outside, the Olive Branch.
