Story

UPDATE: After four – at times gruelling, but mainly enjoyable, supportive and inspiring – days’ pedalling, all 40 riders completed the 210 miles from Bolton to Vauxhall on Sunday 16th May.  For the last couple of miles we cycled en masse, all in our green Macmillan t-shirts, following Oliver in a red Routemaster double-decker bus lent to us for the afternoon!

I feel really privileged to have taken part in the bike ride, sharing the experience with some great people – and the generosity of those who sponsored me truly did make a big difference, especially on some long, slow hills in the Peak District!

Thank you

PS There are photos and more information about the OWR Project at http://www.furthermoore.com/TheOWRProject_org_uk.  So far the project has raised over £43,000 – more than enough to fully fund a Macmillan nurse for a year

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support's tremendous work by taking part in the OWR Project, a 200+-mile bike ride from Bolton to Vauxhall on May 13th - 16th

As you may know, my nephew and Godson, Oliver, was diagnosed with cancer in the Spring of 2009.  The past year has been - by turns - heartbreaking, humbling and inspiring as Oliver has endured chemotherapy, radiotherapy and the replacement of most of a thigh bone.  Throughout he has been positive, combative, never seeming to succumb to self-pity and bizarely focused on helping everybody else through the experience.

Oliver has returned to work, really improved his mobility and is generally getting his life back.  He won't be getting an 'all clear' but all's well for now and he has succeeded brilliantly in the face of a poor prognosis.  However, Oliver would be the first to say that he hasn't battled alone.  His partner, Catherine, his friends and family have all helped him through and the medical treatment he has received has been excellent.  Oliver says that Macmillan offered a crucial source of practical support and advice, by raising funds we hope to ensure that support is available to whoever needs it in future.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So, if you're able, please dig deep and donate now.  Thank you!
