Story
More than 6 of us will be swimming the 5.6km stretch of sea from
Gilkicker point to Ryde on the on
Sunday, 30th August 2009. The swim will take us across one of the busiest
shipping lanes in the world, with obstacles such as hovercraft, ferries, swarms
of poisonous jellyfish, and human excrement from the ships toilets, the cold
water, waves and currents to confront.
The logistics and safety boats will be arranged by and Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards who are also our chosen charity for the event. Spare a thought for these saintly souls who often put there own lives at risk to save those, which through accident or mistake, are in danger of drowning. They depend on the funds of people like you and I to keep doing their admirable work.
Please sponsor generously as they have to cover their own costs for organising the event before any surplus can go to the charity.
Thank you for your donations and please come support us on the day by attending the start at , or at Ryde for the final sprint to the beach.
