Story

On 2nd November 2017 The Bear Garden celebrated its 25th Birthday. We wanted to do something to mark this special moment in our history and the year that followed and so the plan was hatched to raise £25,000 to help innocent children affected by conflict. We chose to continue raising funds for the brilliant charity War Child, as it goes so well with our line of business.

We raised money throughout 2017 and continue throughout 2018, but we also had specific fundraising activities planned:

1) In September 2017 Andrew and his wife Kate took part in the gruelling two day 105 mile Rat Race Coast to Coast challenge across The Scottish Highlands. This involved running, cycling and kayaking for which they have both trained very hard since January. They were on a regular training schedule of running, cycling, simulated kayaking, core work and more! It was a very serious challenge, especially for Andrew with his dodgy knees and back (and he is getting on a bit)! This is a link to the challenge (you might need to cut and paste it) : www.ratrace.com/coasttocoast/

2) One "surprise" Saturday in 2017 The Bear Garden again donated 20% of all our takings for the day (online and in store) to War Child. This took place on Saturday 17th June and raised £516.

3) Dance Party - Saturday 24th June 2017 - This featured a 6 hour DANCE-A-THON from Jen, who has been part of The Bear Garden team for nearly 16 years! She decided to raise some money towards the target by doing a sponsored 6 hour DANCE-A-THON during our Charity Dance Party at The Boileroom in Guildford on Saturday 24th June between 3pm and 9pm. Jen danced continuously 6 hours and training hard to build up the required level of stamina! Everyone was welcome and many came to join in to keep Jen company for the full six hours or maybe just six minutes! 7 year old Charlotte did a sponsored one hour dance as well! This raised £813.

4) We will be auctioning many special items throughout this period, some from our archives and some donated by our suppliers, all to raise further funds!

Thanks for your help!
