Story

Back in September last year Chris and I went for a beer.

My son, Alex, was just finishing his last chemo treatment - he had had 9 months of chemo, with prior to that, 3 months of daily radiotherapy under general anaesthetic with chemo as well. Prior to that, he'd endured an 8.5 hour operation on his brain to remove a tumour, which had been diagnosed only 4 days before, when he was 3.5 years old.

In fact that night Chris and I had a few beers. During the course of the evening, we agreed to grow our hair long and then cut it off in order to try and raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity.....a conversation which resulted in lots of emotional backslapping and man hugs. Fantastic.

The only problem was, in the morning I completely forgot about the agreement (or my sub-conscious chose to ignore it?!). After a few months of classic Chris dry humour and odd comments about my hair style / hair cuts, I was finally reminded of our fundraising agreement...!! Oops.

Chris has now not had a hair cut for a year. I haven't had a trim since the start of the year. (See photos below).

After all the ridicule, trashy talk and constant comments from our friends, family, colleagues and clients - not forgetting threats, disbelief, disagreement and serious talking to from our children and significant other halves, the time has come for The Big Cut.

  • Date: Thursday 12th September
  • Time: 12.30pm onwards
  • Location: Dering Street - between Bonds and Duke of York pubs
  • Format: Every half and hour we will be getting the scissors / clippers out - and if we raise enough prior and in each half hour period, we will go down to the bic razor!

Please come down on the day with a pocket full of change and laugh at us / support us. If you can't make it (and even if you can) please donate here - we'd like to raise £1,000 before the day to be convinced not to just get a normal haircut!

As you may know, my son Alex is the first child in the UK to take part in a clinical trial called PNET5 - part funded by The Brain Tumour Charity - the results of which we hope will help unfortunate children in the future who are diagnosed with Medulloblastoma brain tumours to 1) survive, 2) not to suffer as much through their treatment and 3) have reduced life-changing critical long term disabilities.

Thank you for your help and kind donations.

And lastly and most importantly, a huge thank you to Chris - for such a big personal, self-depreciating, long term and (quite daft) visible show of support - I really do appreciate it.

See you on the 12th!
