Story
In September 2025, we have challenged ourselves to take on the Northumberland Coast Mighty Hike to help raise money for people living with cancer. We (15 of us) are entering our team as a tribute to our Dad, Granda, Uncle, friend - Brian Robinson. In short Brian is simply a legend and we want to support this charity in recognition of the help and support a team of their wonderful nurses gave Brian and our family when we needed it the most.
In Easter 2024 Dad collapsed with a seizure whilst visiting family, he was treated at A&E and told it was likely a result of his medication. A month later following a further seizure Dad was admitted to North Tees with a suspected stroke. During that stay we were visited by a consultant who suspected a tumour. It was the first time this had been mentioned and I remember naively saying to him at least you haven’t had a stroke and truly believing this could be treated.
He was referred to Mr Varma at James Cook who confirmed the worst news - a grade 4 glioblastoma and proposed a debulking surgery. Dad was so brave and faced all of this calmly with his trust in the doctors and nurses. The surgery was booked for May 13th. He sailed through this and we were amazed to visit him that evening in recovery with no bandages and sitting chatting to us!!!
He recovered well from this and was referred to an oncologist. The next step would be chemotherapy. Dad was keen to give this a go but sadly after just one round he picked up Covid a few times and wasn’t well enough to continue.
After spending several weeks in North Tees hospital fighting Covid and a variety of other infections he came home (at his request) on Aug 23rd but sadly the tumour had spread and he passed away peacefully on Sept 9th.
Obviously there is now a huge Brian shaped hole in all our lives but his humour, kindness and love of life will continue to live on through his family and friends.
Individually we have each pledged to raise £250 which can pay for a Macmillan Nurse for one day. In our experience the Macmillan teams are more than nurses they provide medical, practical and emotional support and most importantly they so quickly formed a bond with our Dad putting him at ease. We really appreciate any donations you can make to support this amazing charity to enable to them to help more families 💚
There are currently 3 million people living with cancer in the UK today. It's Macmillan's goal to be there for everyone from the moment of diagnosis, but they can't do this without donations from people like you.
Thank you xxx
