London to Paris cycle (253 miles in 24 hours) · 21 April 2023
** NEW UPDATE(15/05/2023) - The Duchenne Dash London to Paris Cycle 2023 is now over! Dan, along with 150 other riders made it in one piece from Herne Hill all the way to the Eiffel Tower. 256 miles in total were covered in a little over 16.5 hours of cycling time.
A huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored so far. Combined thw 150 riders raised over £650,000 for Duchenne UK. Words simply do not do the Duchenne Dash justice. It was incredibly well organised from start to finish. We had a motorcycle escort the whole way, regular food and drinks breaks, excellent team riders guiding us, great company and friends made, as well as a brilliant meal at next to the Eiffel Tower to top it off.
Pencil it in the diary for next year. It's an absolute blast.**
* Update - Chris and Lee made it to Paris in a time of 23 hours and 50 minutes!! This was a strong effort given they have 3 punctures on route to Dover. This mean't they missed their ferry so lost 90 minutes waiting for the next one. To top it off, it rained constantly in France which made the going tough...and cold!
Dan unfortunately had to withdraw the day before due to family reasons but will be taking part in the offical Duchenne Dash (London to Paris) cycle with 150 others on Friday 12th May. The Duchenne Dash is shorter by 70 miles so Dan will cycle this additional mileage 5 hours before the start of the official ride. He will therefore match the same mileage as Chris and Lee.*
For the last few months we have been training hard to turn our legs into pistons that can power us from London to Paris in under 24 hours. This equates to 256 miles in 24 hours with 3 of those hours lost in the ferry crossing. It will be touch and go!
The route is London (Petts Wood) to Dover. Then over to Calais on the Ferry before heading south as fast as possible to Paris.
We have chosen Duchenne UK as Dan's wife (Jo) has worked for this incredible charity for a number of years and therefore the connection to this charity is personal and extremely important. Jo and the rest of her colleagues at Duchenne UK are working tirelessly to find a cure for this devastating disease. They WILL find a cure and any donation you can provide will help them to continue their research. Thank you!!
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a devastating muscle-wasting disease. It is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Diagnosed in childhood, it mainly affects boys. Started by families affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK: connecting the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development. Together, we will end Duchenne.
