Story
Please help us raise money for a charity that is close to many people’s hearts, The Myton Hospices, who have 3 sites located in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick, and care for people aged 18+ who have terminal illnesses.
One of our members, Donna Callow, was due to take part in an overseas challenge, walking part of the Great Wall of China and Heavens Ladder, to help raise part of the £12 million needed to provide this care.
Donna herself is a nurse at The Myton Hospices and had always wanted to take part in the oversees challenge, so signed up for The Great Wall of China in May 2018. She began training hard for the event at Empire Gym & Studios and was eager to complete it.
Unfortunately Donna was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer in December 2018, and was given her own personal wall to climb. Sadly, with a heavy heart she had to pull out of the challenge.
In February 2019 Donna underwent a Mastectomy, lymph node
clearance, breast reconstruction and chemotherapy. After months of treatment Donna has been given the wonderful news that she is now cancer free. Together, we want to complete Donna's challenge and raise those vital funds for The Myton Hospices. Please show your support by joining us on the gym floor on Monday 7th October 2019 from 4pm, where Team Empire and Donna will be taking part in a sponsored incline walk. We will be joined by DJ Ollie Newell who will get the party started!
The care that The Myton Hospices provide is free of charge, however less than 20% of its funding comes from the NHS. For every £1 we raise, 86p will be spent on providing services for patients and their loved ones.
