75 MILES FOR MENTAL HEALTH

The Gratitude Walk · 13 November 2020
75% of all suicides in the U.K and U.S are male.
On February 24th, I will be walking 75 MILES. Starting around 3am and walking until it is complete. I am doing this challenge for a couple of reasons. Firstly, as part of an ongoing effort to highlight and raise awareness around men's mental health; and secondly, after going through one of the hardest periods of my life to date, this is to remind me how lucky I am to have my life and movement.
After being diagnosed with cancer in 2018, I fell into a deep depression, for months I thought about ending my life. Looking back, walking was one of the only things that kept me alive. Movement and exercise was the key to keeping my mind in a somewhat positive place, however, I held too much in and didn't find a space to talk about what was going on in my life. I was lucky enough to have a breakthrough that led me to where I am now, but so many never get there.
I am now making it my mission to keep talking about mental health, keep showing my own vulnerability; and help to bridge the gap between exercise and mental health.
I have chosen to support HUMEN for this and many more future challenges.
HUMEN is leading a global movement to improve & maintain men's mental health.75% of all UK and US suicides are male. The HUMEN Space: the Gym For Your Mind are anonymous and non-clinical spaces across the globe for men to talk, listen and connect on a regular basis. Striving to change the narrative until a prevention approach over a crisis response is the norm, not the exception. HUMEN is changing the face of what it means to be a man. Providing an accessible solution to prevent men from suffering in silence and dying too young.
I believe that by keeping this conversation open; and keeping on pushing this movement, we can save thousands of lives.
I appreciate all support from the bottom of my heart.
