K&N's Tree-mendous Challenge · 4 July 2020

We're encouraging supporters, members, volunteers, and local families to take on a fun, botany-inspired challenge this year. Help us to celebrate 110 years of the SLBI and keep us going through the Covid-19 crisis. We hope you'll join us!

Story

The South London Botanical Institute (SLBI) is a magical place that encourages and enables local schools, families and groups to study plants. As with most places, the SLBI has had to close its doors to schools and visitors due to the Government's lockdown requirements for Covid19. At a time of ecological crisis, when we need more people to learn about the importance and beauty of the plant world, the Higgott girls are fundraising to help keep this special place thriving.

K and N are 3.5 and 2.5 years of age and love nature. K spends every day looking for flowers to smell. She's learning new names for plants like lavender and collecting seeds for her mummy. N loves to hug trees and find interesting grass and twigs for her nature box. They want the  Institute to stay open so that they can visit and have lots of fun learning about the natural world.

THEIR CHALLENGE: To find 15 different types of tree and take rubbings of the barks. They will travel to Brockwell Park and Streatham Common Woods to take on the challenge. They are open to special requests too so if you have a favourite tree let us know in exchange for a donation.
