Story

On Sunday 23rd May Cara, Elizabeth, Florence and Honor (and their mothers) will be walking the five mile Marsden March from Wimbledon to The Royal Marsden in Sutton in order to raise much needed funds for The Royal Marsden. One in two people will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime so each of the girls has their own very important reason for walking – they each know someone who has recently experienced cancer or is currently undergoing treatment. They will each be celebrating or commemorating them as they walk. This is the first time the girls have taken on a sponsored walk and they would dearly like to raise as much money as possible so please do give generously to support them. While for us mothers you may think a 5 mile walk isn't going to be much of a challenge, just ponder for a minute how many times, between them, 4 reasonably young girls walking 5 miles through the, at times, rather dull streets of South London can say “my feet hurt”, “I’m bored”, “I need a wee” and not forgetting that favourite line of all…. "Are we nearly there yet"? Surely that has to be worth a quid or two of sponsorship for us??! This year all the money raised from The Banham Marsden March is going towards building the Oak Cancer Centre at Sutton. Due to open in 2022 this exciting new centre will not only ensure The Royal Marsden can be there for everyone who needs their care, by increasing capacity by 40%, but, by bringing together 400 researchers to work alongside patients, also accelerate progress in new cancer treatments for the benefit of patients everywhere.  The centre will also double the number of patients able to access early diagnosis services, and house a new Education Centre, helping to train the next generation of world-leading oncologists. Your generous sponsorship will help make this brand new facility a reality so that hopefully one day no one has to die from cancer. Thank you so much for your support,
