Story

‘The Joyride’ is the name of our charity bike ride that has been a big focus of mine since my Mum, Joy Whatley, died three days before Christmas. The aim of 'The Joyride' is to raise £15,000.00 for Cancer Research.

My Mum was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer less than two years ago. She had Chemo and was given the all clear until October last year when she was was told that in fact she had tumours in both her Liver and Spine. This shocking news was delivered with the reassurance that she could be treated and had years to live. My Mum, a former nurse, was hopeful.

Seven weeks later at the age of 55, my Mum lost her life to cancer.

My Mum and Dad had just moved to France to enjoy their retired years together, to live their dream out.

To focus on something positive at this sad time, me, my brother and four of my friends are planning to cycle about 400 miles from Wantage; Oxfordshire to my parents’ house in Gouex, France.
