Story

The lads are giving themselves a challenge to cycle 100 miles in one day! Its a tough one but they have been training hard. Thursdays and Sundays are dedicated to training they have been pushing the distance with lots of laughs, injuries, punctures, unexpected detours, (that means getting lost) and probably tears (although they would never admit it) along the way.

Day one of the challenge 14th September, is a 105 mile ride from home in Aston Sheffield to Hornsea. Not only this but after an overnight stay they are cycling home for a further 77 miles!!

A mention must go to Lee Kitchen who plans the routes and gets the boys home safely and as well as memorising the best routes seems to sometimes finish up at a pub too! The lads think we WAGS (wife's and girlfriends) don't know but we don't really mind as its well deserved, especially as they are doing this for a great cause.

I am Hayley the wife of Carl one of the cyclists, I have known some of these lads from school and they are all aware of how my life has changed dramatically over the years after being diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). This is an eye condition that means I will lose my sight gradually over time. I may retain a little sight but may lose it all together, only time will tell. At the moment I have about 5 degrees of my sight left in the form of tunnel vision. You can imagine how this effects someone physically and emotionally. I would not have managed without the support of friends and family but also The Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind and Rotherham Sight and Sound. They have provided me with hope and the will and confidence to go on living with sight loss and cope with the adaptations and challenges this brings. This charity helps so many others every day  with sight loss and hearing loss of varying degrees who face the extra challenges life throws at them everyday.

I thank the lads for choosing this charity and wish them along with all their friends and family the best of luck they will smash this and we will be there to nurse the sore bits when they are home.
