Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our page!

For anyone who doesn't know me, my name is Adele "Mrs Mac" McKenzie and I am 33 years old and I am married to Robert "Bert" McKenzie, 33. My sister, Michelle, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in her spine around March 2015. It was considered operable, and after lengthy surgery to fit metal pins to reinforce my sister's spine, we were advised that this was most likely a secondary cancer.

Cancer is so unpredictable... however more tests were carried out to try to source the initial cancer and eventually it was found in her eosophagus and the devasting news was given, that although treatable, it was sadly not curable. Depsite all her surgery, losing her voice and some of her teeth and all her fighting she refused to give up or lay down to her cancer! It put immense strain and pressure on the family as a whole and also on day to day life. Despite the frustration Michelle dealt with on a daily basis, she remained positive and upbeat and kept her very sarcastic sense of humour and continued to publish work, which was her passion!

Sadly, after coping with this disease for a few short months, my sister, Michelle, lost her battle against Oesophageal Cancer on the 23rd August 2015, with her family by her bedside.

My sister was one of the strongest and most determined people I have ever known, exceptionally talented and intellegent and she accomplished so much in her short life. I am so lucky to have been her sister. We intend to make her proud by running this half marathon in her memory! Luckily, my sister made my wedding and made some special memories with my husband and I and those memories continue to be in our hearts every day. Michelle's memory lives on through her family, especially her dedicated husband, Peter, and her two amazing children, Hannah and Ross.

Michelle dealt with her cancer with a very vocal sense of humour, dignity and sheer stubborness and determination (and I wouldn't have expected anything less from her to be honest)! This is why we are appealing to you for your support by sponsoring us in the Scottish Half Marathon (September 2017), in honour of all cancer sufferers, to help provide Cancer Research UK with the fundraising they need to research this disease and hopefully one day find a cure?!

ONE DAY IT COULD BE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE....
