Story
THE GREAT RIVER RACE
Carrie, Vicky, Sandra and Phoebe are all going to Greenwich for the day. The only difficulty being their choice of transport - they will start from Ham House, near Richmond, and row the 22 miles down the Thames, passing under 28 bridges. They will be in the company of nearly 300 other boats, ranging from small skiffs (us) through to racing skiffs, dragon boats, Hawaiian canoes and Viking longboats. This is the annual Great River Race, London’s water marathon.
A starting cannon will be fired at 12.55pm on Saturday 8th September and about fifteen minutes later our crew will take the first of many strokes. The start is staggered on handicap, the slowest boats start first, the fastest may not start until 1 ½ hours later but the first boat over the finishing line wins.
Our boat will once again fly the flag of and raise funds for The Mulberry Centre, West London ’s centre dedicated to supporting anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer.
Please sponsor us and help us raise funds for this cause. Donating through this site is simple fast and totally secure. It is also an efficient way to sponsor us – The Mulberry Centre will receive your money quickly and, if you are a taxpayer, 28% Gift Aid will be added to your gift at no extra cost to you.
We should like to express our thanks to The Lensbury Club at Teddington Lock for once again lending us a boat.
Thank you for visiting our fundraising site – and thank you for sponsoring us.
