St John's Hospice is committed to celebrating and amplifying life, enabling people to live well for as long as possible. Each year, we provide care to more than 4,000 patients and their families across North London. To donate or fundraise, please contact us at fundraising@hje.org.uk.

Story

The Portman Estate has adopted St John's Hospice as its corporate charity for 2012. Our aim is to support the Hospice, allowing the upgrade of one of its bedrooms to recommended standards - new flooring, beds, bathroom units and fittings provide terminally ill patients with more comfortable surroundings.

Specialist staff deliver extraordinary palliative care free of charge for over 2,000 patients and families each year, helping them face a variety of life-threatening illnesses, including cancer, motor neurone disease, renal failure, respiratory disease, HIV and MS. It is staffed by a fantastic team and is a very humbling place to visit.

To help raise money for this fantastic cause we have entered The Great River Race - 'London's River Marathon' - 21 miles on the Thames from London Docklands to Ham in Surrey, on Saturday 15 September. We have two boats, 16 rowers, two coxes and two passengers, and will be rowing alongside over 300 other crews. We have started our training and will update our page with photos as we progress.

We held an Auction at the Estate's office in mid-July and were delighted to raise over £36,000 for the Hospice - a very special thanks to our contractors and suppliers for their generosity.

St John's Hospice provides a tremendous service for London and we would be very grateful for your support in helping this terrific organisation provide care for their patients. Thank you.
