LANDS END TO JOHN O'GROATS CYCLE RIDE - August 2012!!

So why are we biking 1000 miles UPHILL from Lands End to John O'Groats?

During 2011 two very special people, Dave's partner Claire and Sue's Mum were both diagnosed with breast cancer. It is a tough time for them and a real roller coaster ride, but they have both been brilliant and we are so proud of them.

Since June of last year they have been receiving excellent care and treatment from the Macmillan Cancer Primrose Unit in Bedford Hospital. All of the staff are fantastic and we really want to help them to raise as much money as possible to provide support and care for people living with cancer.

So we have set ourselves a challenge of raising £15000.  Although you will receive an email from Bedford Hospital charity stating it is for the Gamma Plus Appeal,  the charity will be allocating everything we raise to the Macmillan Primrose cancer unit.

So the training has started ... well sort of and the fundraising has begun! We will be having curry nights, pub quizzes, a ball, raffles etc., so it would be great if you could come and support us.  Watch this space!

News:  We have a new member of the team - Steve is now joining us for the BIG challenge  .....

Curry Night:  The curry night was a great success and we made £1266 for this great cause.  THANK YOU so much for everyone who attended and helped us out on the night.

Christmas Raffle:  Wow - what a great success.  We had some fab prizes and our family and friends sold loads of tickets  .... so much so that we raised an additional £1500   ..... thanks to everyone once again.  We wouldn't be able to raise so much money without your help.

Quiz Night:   .... so it will be a quiz night next.  Watch this space!!  ..... The quiz night was another great success - many thanks to Dave's sister & brother in law, Laura and David, for running the quiz and coming up with the questions :) Lots of drink was drunk and lots of money made for our challenge.  Thanks to every single person that attended.

Training    ..... it is now end of June and the training has really started  ..... evenings and weekends are being spent on the bike and we are currently doing long rides of around 60 - 70 miles!  Padded cycling shorts are a must and lots of energy drinks and food is being consumed.

16 August 2012    We are continuing training hard and we have less than two weeks to go.  It's tough and training rides are at least 4 to 5 times per week.  We are all getting a little anxious now but still looking forward to it  .....

and we have another Curry Night tonight - so hopefully we will be well over our target of £15000 when we finish later tonight!!  Yippee

Cancer really does affect us all so please help us to help those living with cancer today and in the future.
