Story
I am excited to announce I will running in the the London Marathon April 23, 2023 for The Brain Tumour Charity and the movement to defeat brain tumors.
I will be running and raising funds for this charity in memory of my father James E Cufari.
My father died at 47 from brain cancer (astrocytoma) Jan 6, 1997 days after receiving his diagnosis and the same day he started chemotherapy.
My dad always wanted better for his kids (including his students and soccer players) and parented lockstep with my mother - true soulmates. As a family member, coach, teacher and leader, he left a lasting impression and through his family, former students and soccer players, his memory has carried on.
One of my favorite memories growing up was how he rewired our electronics so we could watch tv and play our video games on long trips in our Westfalia VW camper. 30 years later his vision became dvd players embedded behind front seats.
I am truly honored to be able to run for this charity and raise money for a cause that so profoundly changed how I have navigated my adult life. My hope is that we find cures and treatment plans so that others do not have to lose their loved ones.
While I am running in memory of my father, I am grateful for the support and love of my mother. I am thankful for her unconditional guidance and encouragement as she gracefully picked up the role of both mother and father. She will be at the finish line (my biggest cheerleader) and I am excited to share this experience with her. I also know for sure my father will be there in spirit - lockstep with my mom.
To end with two of my favorite quotes my dad used and always resonated: “idol hands are like the devil’s workshop” and “this is who I am take it or leave it.”
Thank you for your donation for this wonderful cause and good luck to all the runners! May your feet feel light and may the wind always be at your back!
