Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Four people united by the effects of Dementia on a family member and a common love of swimming. Pete Moyes worked with Anne-Marie Lawrence at Life Skills Education Charity. Pete and Theresa Tomlinson volunteer together to help run, with others, Retford and District Lifesaving club in Retford. Phil Field is a long standing friend of Pete's they have holidayed together and shared a common passion for fitness and sports, primarily triathlons for over 20 years. Swimming the English Channel, to a swimmer is the same as climbing Mount Everest is to a climber, although fewer people are bonkers enough to choose to swim the Channel. One day Pete thought he should have a go at swimming the Channel before he forgets! A pact was formed with Anne-Marie who is a lover of open water swimming and other victims were sought. Theresa and Phil are always up for a challenge and the team was born.
