Once again the Rowbottoms (Keith, Matt and Ian, this time) are taking on the challenge of driving around Britain (approx. 2000 miles) in 48 hours as part of Club Triumph's Biennial Round Britain Reliability Run. We are hoping that Ruby will do us proud once more.

This is not a race but an attempt to get as many of the 140+ teams as possible around this island of ours. It is a carefully organised event with control points at John O'Groats and Land's End and many points in between including Knebworth House on A1 where the event begins and ends. Having said that, there is a time limit and the objective is to get around in 48 hours. We start at 6pm on Friday 5th October with the aim to finish at 6pm Sunday 7th October.

It will be non-stop driving. The 3 of us (Christine has decided to stay at home this year) will take it in turns to navigate, drive and rest. One reason for Christine to opt out was to give a little more room in the rear of the Triumph Herald for the person resting.

As well as it being a great challenge, and great fun, it is also a fund-raising event. On this occasion the charity is “Epilepsy Research UK”. This is because Martin Randle, a long-time member of Club Triumph, very sadly lost his life at far too young an age through Epilepsy last year. Over the years Club Triumph has raised over £600,000 for various charities through this event and the target this time is to raise £65,000, so if you are willing to sponsor Keith, Matt and Ian it would be really appreciated.   

Our first attempt at this challenge was two years ago in 2016. You can see a short video our our journey on https://youtu.be/zUiz8S-p-0E Amazingly we won the Strafford Trophy for the most outstanding car of the event as voted by the participants. That was a proud moment.

For those who would like to know a little more 'Ruby' is a 1963 Triumph Herald that Keith & Chris bought in 2014 in the week of their Ruby wedding anniversary. The car is red and white - hence her name!!! To date in her long life she has travelled just 57,000 miles and has been on the road throughout the years, some years only travelling a few hundred miles. Keith & Chris enjoy going out for trips in Ruby and exhibiting her at various classic car shows around the country. Keith is delighted to have his two sons, Matt & Ian, join him once again for the Round Britain Reliability Run.
