Story
Two blokes, one kayak, one pair of running shoes - 6 days, 6 counties, 600km for the BHF’s 60th birthday!!
We have set ourselves the challenge of travelling the length of the river Trent under our own steam. Starting in Staffordshire, Bob will kayak and I'll be running, covering 600km between us over 6 days beginning on 19th June. Please support us and help us reach our £6,000 target for the BHF's 60th birthday!
Why?
After canoeing down the River Wye a few years ago Bob and I decided to try something a bit more ambitious so when he suggested the River Trent from its source near Stoke, through Burton and Nottingham, and ending up 300km later at the Humber estuary it sounded like a good idea.
Bob then showed me the new single person kayak he’d bought. My initial reaction was in jest: “there’s only room for one in that – what do you want me to do, run alongside you?!” And then 10 minutes later I thought how great the idea of running 180 miles in a week sounded, and what an opportunity to see parts of the country that I really don’t know that well. From then on, it was a matter of “when” and “how” rather than “should we or not”.
The fact that both of us have lost close relatives to heart disease made it a no-brainer to take this opportunity to raise money for the British Heart Foundation to help fund world-class research into heart and circulatory disease, and to provide outstanding information and support for people affected by it.
This will probably be one of the most knackering things I’ve attempted, and I’m really not certain that we’ll be able to complete it, so I’m just hoping that raising money for such a great cause will keep us going, especially when the conditions get really tough.
Thank you ever so much for your support.
