Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are 4 cousins stretching themselves to the limit to raise vital funds for 3 amazing woman's cancer charities, Ovarian Cancer Action, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Breast Cancer Now.

After raising £20k in 2019 we are BACK!  In Oct-22 we will be squeezing into our lycra once again and cycling across Kenya as part of the Woman V Cancer initiative.  (Our Sri Lanka cycle has been cancelled due to the current economic crisis the country is facing.  Our thoughts are with those suffering as a result of this).

Kirsty's story: 7 years ago I was diagnosed with a rare type of ovarian cancer which was staged as 2C, meaning that the cancer had spread from my ovary to other tissues in my pelvis.  I had 2 surgeries and 6 rounds of chemo to get rid of the niggling cells hanging about. Then in Jun-16 following a preventative hysterectomy, removal of my cervix and my omentum, tests showed that my cancer had already returned with a 2nd tumour and additional cancer cells.

Scans showed that the surgery has been a success and I was able to lead a healthy life with check ups every three months.

Life went on and our adventures continued.  Our son Matthew was born through surrogacy with my sister Karen acting as our oven to care and grow our bun. Her amazing gift allowed us to live in a way that I had always dreamed of, to be our own wee family and to be a mummy.

Unfortunately in January 2021 my blood markers rose and a scan showed that 2 new tumours were growing in my abdomen (thank goodness for those 3 months check ups!).  I was taken into hospital for full abdominal surgery and thanks to my amazing doctors, both tumours were successfully removed.  The worst blow was hearing from my oncologist that there's a high chance my cancer will return.  I know I'm in good hands and will continue to be well looked after.

Now that I know that cancer will always be a part of me, I'm determined to do everything I can to aid in the research & support AND MY AMAZING FAMILY ARE HERE TO HELP!  My 2 cousins, Brenda and Michelle have crazily volunteered to join me and I couldn't love them more!  I truly believe woman are stronger together and these cycles embody every element of that.

All expenses will be covered so that every penny raised will go straight to the 3 charities.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our page and for sparing your hard earned pennies, we appreciate all your support.

Love Kirsty, Brenda and Michelle x
