We fund life-saving medical research to make gynae cancers diseases of the past

Story

I will be riding 58km per day in September to raise funds and awareness for the Eve Appeal. It is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month and the Eve Appeal will be focusing on abnormal vaginal bleeding - GO RED.

Abnormal vaginal bleeding is a key symptom of three of the five gynaecological cancers: womb, cervical and vaginal, and a less common symptom of ovarian cancer.

I am hoping to raise £1 per km for the charity. I hope you can help.

**NOTE**

Target was raised to £3,000 as my friend Stefan Andrews is running 58km on Saturday 25/9/20.

My beautiful Mum aged 59 sadly passed away on August 8, 2020 with what started with one of the five Gynaecological cancers, womb cancer.

In November 2019 my Mum experienced abnormal and irregular bleeding, so she made a trip to the GP in the same month and she was told that she was going through the menopause. The GP told my Mum that this was healthy and to embrace it. So she did ...

My Mum continued to experience the bleeding but developed other symptoms in fatigue, nausea and also bloating. But assumed this was 'healthy' and she continued to 'embrace' it.

Of course COVID-19 did not help with trying to create further appointments with Doctors etc. That is a different story altogether.

Mum returned to the GP in May 2020 with her concerns and the cancer journey started from there. Sadly, for my Mum it was too late. The Cancer had spread to her liver and lungs.

More must be done to raise awareness and research into detecting early signs and symptoms of Gynaecological cancer.

Each year in the UK, over 21,000 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer. This means 58 people receive this life-changing news each and every day. Sadly, 21 of these women die a day from their gynaecological cancer.

That's far too many mothers, wives, daughters, partners and friends. The Eve Appeal are determined to change this.

Part of their mission is to ensure that everyone is aware of what to look out for, because recognising gynaecological cancer symptoms can mean an earlier diagnosis and a better outcome.

Yet despite this, awareness levels among both women and men are startlingly low. That’s why #TeamEve are determined to change this by raising much-needed awareness of gynaecological cancers and their signs and symptoms.

The Eve Appeal want everyone to know their body. They want to lift the veil of shame off of women's bodies and open up conversations so that everyone knows the difference between a vagina and a vulva, so that everyone knows there are five gynaecological cancers, and so that everyone knows their normal, can spot when something feels abnormal for them, and feel comfortable talking about it. Only then will everyone be able to access the healthcare they need, when they need it.
