Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As some of you will know whilst celebrating a friends 30th birthday about three years ago I made a rather ambitious / foolish bet to run 30 marathons before I turned 30. I wouldn’t have described myself as a runner (and still wouldn’t) and indeed at the time the bet was made I had completed just one marathon. Whilst certain individuals may have queried (and continue to query) how achievable this bet is, I am pleased to detail I will complete my thirtieth marathon in Abu Dhabi on Friday 7 December, three days before I turn thirty.
Whilst this bet has served as a good distraction to my impending mid-life crisis regarding my age, it has been exceptionally challenging and demanding, both mentally and physically. Having endured several injuries, countless physio sessions, spent hours and hours researching suitable marathons and planning travel, not to mention the “training” put in (in that I have never actually trained for a marathon in my life) it is somewhat fitting that the final 42.195 kilometers in this journey will take place in the U.A.E. shortly before I relocate from the country.
Having spent the last few years brutally punishing myself and regretting the life choices which led to the bet, and noting I will have completed 14 marathons in 2018 alone, with the finish line now in sight I am hoping to raise £30,000 for Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research and is a charity close to my heart having tragically lost family and friends to the disease.
Any donation would be much appreciated and would help Cancer Research UK in their efforts to beat cancer.
If anyone would like to run a marathon with me this year do let me know – or if you’d just like more information on the madness, and the full list of the marathons completed please do drop me a message either on here or holderjames@hotmail.com.
