Myeloma UK London Paris Ride 2016 · 5 May 2016 to 9 May 2016 ·

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. We provide information and support to patients and their families and help myeloma patients live longer, with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development of and access to new treatments.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Multiple myeloma, like AL amyloidosis,  has a relapsing-remitting course - that means it may go into remission after effective treatment, but it may recur or relapse. Every time a relapse happens a different treatment is given but there are only limited treatments available, and sometimes people run out of therapy options.

In 2014 David and Thirusha cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats to fundraise for a MRI scanner at the NAC (the picture above was taken at the end of the 14-day ride). This year we are joining the Myeloma UK London to Paris ride to fundraise for the development of new treatments for multiple myeloma. This could benefit patients with AL amyloidosis too, as the same chemotherapy drugs are often used to treat both diseases.

We are doing this ride in memory of Steven Pugh, a brave young man who sadly lost his battle with AL amyloidosis this year.

Thirusha Lane (NAC Lead Nurse) and David Hutt (Lead NAC Nuclear Medicine Technician) will be doing the ride. Darren Foard (AL amyloidosis Specialist Nurse) will be in charge of the fundraising.
