Fundraising for The Sick Children's Trust

We’re hoping to to make this donation to the Sick Children’s Trust on Christmas Day and hopefully bring happiness to families in need across the country who are going through some similar to what we did.
It was January 2017 when me and my partner found out we were expecting. On our 10 week scan we were told there was something wrong with our child. Unfortunately our child had developed a condition known as Gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is a condition developed in around 1 in 3000 babies every year in the UK. It is where the babies bowels grow on the outside of the body. It can lead to various complications with both the birth and lifestyle as he grows. Albie had to be induced three weeks early as the risk of still birth is high in Gastroschisis babies.
Albie was born on Friday 13th October. Unlucky for some however not for us. Albie went into theatre that same night for his operation. The surgeons were able to re-insert his bowels back into the tiny space left in Albie's little body. The operation was a complete success. Albie's expected recovery period was 4-12 weeks for which we had to be by his side every step of the way. This wouldn't have been possible without the help of the Sick Children's Trust.
For the duration of Albie's recovery we stayed at Eckersley House. Eckersley House is a small building across from the hospital run entirely by the Sick Children's Trust. It can house around 25 families and is completely charity funded. We were amazed by this as it truly was a 'home from home'. Staying at Eckersley house allowed both myself and my partner to be with Albie throughout his recovery every day and every night. Our presence really made a difference to how quick he recovered.
Albie was discharged within 4 weeks of being born and having his operation. The hospital staff were amazed by his speedy and successful recovery. We believe that without the Sick Children's Trust's help we would not have been discharged so early.
This is my way of giving something back to charity that help my family in a time of need.
