Story
In August 2009 Morgan, Eloise, Lou and I were invited to visit Nothern Tanzania by our friend Chandrika. It was an A-MAZ-ING trip. Chandrika had been working for VSO in Bukoba for 2 years - helping to create a sustainable tourist business. At the same time she worked with a charity, Friends of the Children of Tanzania, that supports many hundreds of children in the area. Whilst we were there we visited an orphanage and school to see first hand the fantastic work they do.
These places gave hope to children who had suffered more in their short lives than anyone should experience in life time. Despite this, the children were some of the happiest and most considerate we have met - blind kids helped to push children without legs in DIY wheelchairs, football matches played with everyone joining in even if they were on crutches and only had one leg. Many of the kids in the orphanage chose to sleep outside, as there was simply not enough room inside. At least, though, they were safe from harm and each held hope for a better future than they could otherwise have ever wished for without the help of FOCT.
As a family we realise how fortunate we are to have everything we have and made a commitment to raise the £20,000 needed to get a roof over these children's heads. Please help us to do this by donating now. Every penny FOCT receives is spent for the benefit of the children we met.
