Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It’s still hard to believe I’m writing this, but the 16th March will mark the 1st year anniversary since we lost Nolene.

As a family we have decided to honour Nolene and our other family members that have been taken too earlier by this awful disease.

Unfortunately 1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime and the shocking statistic is that someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer every 90 seconds.

Our aim as a family is to raise as much money as possible to help support the charities that have cared for our loved ones during their illness, and that continue to support the family during the difficult time after our loved ones passed away.

We have chosen 3 charities that need vital funds to continue offering their services.

1. Institute of Cancer Research

2. Cancer Fund for Children

3. Marie Curie

Nolene took up running to get a big fitter after having her 3 children. She joined a brilliantly supportive couch to 5km group and didn’t look back. She loved the craic with the everyone and liked to push herself to improve so she joined the local running club - Murlough AC - with some of the girls and moved up through the distances and completed a fantastic 1/2 marathon in 2019.

So in Nolene’s memory and the memory of Pauline (Ryan’s Mum), our aunt Eileen (Pauline’s sister and Nolene’s Godmother), uncle Hugh and aunt Maureen, we have decided to undertake 3 marathons this year.

Ryan and I will be doing the London Marathon on the 23rd April and the Dublin on the 29th October together.

In between these 2 marathons, 20 family members will come together and support each other by doing the Belfast Marathon relay as one big team.

With every step we take and each penny we raise, it will all be in memory of the family members we have lost and dedicated to everyone else currently fighting this awful disease at the minute.
