Jacob & Athene's Marathon · 12 April 2019

Our mission is to create a global series of cultural sanctuaries that support the work of traditional indigenous communities protecting their culture and their land.

Story

M A R A T H O N  -  Jacob (age 11) and Athene (age 9) have set themselves an impressive challenge to raise money for The Cultural Sanctuaries Foundation.

Over the course of next week, Jacob is going to run a marathon and Athene is going to run a half marathon ahead of Earth Day on Monday 22 April. Started in 1970, Earth Day is a annual global event to celebrate and support the environment. With the plight of our planet and the devastating effects of climate change becoming ever more evident, it is ever more essential that we protect our environment and its bio-diversity in any way we can.

The Cultural Sanctuaries Foundation (CSF) is a charity that works at the crossroads of culture and conservation. It is creating a series of cultural sanctuaries across the globe that support the work of indigenous communities in the protection of their land and their culture. 80% of the world's remaining biodiversity is on the 15% of the planet lived on by indigenous people - it is their knowledge and understanding of the land on which they live that presents us with the best chance at finding a solution to reverse the effects of climate change. That CSF was founded by Jacob and Athene's aunt and her partner gives the charity particular meaning for the children.

Jacob will run 26.2 miles and Athene will run 13.1 miles. They will complete their distances over a week, will run off road and will take a rest day between each run.

They would be so grateful if you would sponsor them - Thank you!
