Sands is the charity speaking up about pregnancy and baby loss, saving babies’ lives and supporting bereaved families. Together, we are saving babies’ lives and improving maternity safety and bereavement care through research, training and campaigning.

Story

On the 18th May 2012 our world fell apart. At 6am only 2 hours before a scheduled induction of birth as I was 4 days overdue, midwives and doctors broke the news that they could no longer find my baby's heartbeat. I'd fallen asleep in hospital at midnight and woken for routine obs only to spend the next hour having scan after scan to try to find a heart beat. With each scan a little more hope vanished and a little more devastation crept in. After an horrific labour and birth, our son Thomas Andrew Morrow was born. At 59cms long and weighing 8lbs, he looked perfect. He had a full head of dark hair and was the image of his mummy. Everyone said he was a beautiful boy and looked perfect. We just couldn't understand what had happened and doctors couldn't explain it either. We spent the next hours with Thomas trying to create as many memories as we possibly could.

We want to try and honour Thomas by raising funds to help SANDS provide memory boxes for other tragic circumstances such as ours and to try to help SANDS with research in the hope that other families may not have to go through what we are facing now.
