The Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K & 2K Fun Run

Cardiff 10K 2019 · 1 September 2019 ·
I am running the Cardiff 10K in support of my partner and patients alike who suffer with Chronic Kidney Disease. My partner was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy, an autoimmune condition in which protein deposits in the kidneys causing renal failure. Due to aggressive progression of the disease she is currently receiving dialysis on a daily basis whilst awaiting a much needed kidney transplant. Both my partner and our family have received nothing but support from healthcare staff and other patients and families. I decided to take part in this run after receiving news that I was unable to donate a kidney directly to my partner as I am not a match. Completing the run will enable me to give back to such a wonderful cause even if by raising awareness of Chronic Kidney Disease.
By donating to this years campaign you will be supporting Kidney Wales work improving the lives of over 10,000 patients across the country living with this life long, chronic condition. Being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease can have a massive impact on the lives of an individual and their families, and can results in lengthy dialysis sessions and the need for a transplant. There are many forms of the condition, multiple treatments available however there is no cure. For over 50 years Kidney Wales has been a pillar of support to these families living with the daily struggles of this life changing condition. From refurbishing units, funding health care staff, providing financial support and a patient advocacy service, organising activities & events for families and campaigning for the change of law on organ donation in Wales patients remain at the heart of everything that we do.
