Footsteps Foundation improves the quality of life for children and young adults with neuro-motor disorders. We provide them with access to a unique programme of intensive physiotherapy at the Footsteps Centre, enabling them to reach their full potential whilst gaining confidence and independence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When Thomas was eighteen months old we were given the diagnosis of - Global Development Delay, as well as having Truncal Ataxia, which has resulted in a delay with his physical development due to poor balance.

After finally reaching the stage of being strong enough and stable enough to crawl, Thomas is now needing to build on his standing balance and having more control over his movements.

Last year we heard about the Footsteps programme(http://www.footsteps.ltd.uk/) and the tremendous work they do with children who have similar disabilities to Thomas.  Footsteps is a rehabilitation centre providing individual programmes for children and aims to develop and maximise their physical abilities.  The Footsteps therapists use a unique and specialised piece of of equipment called the Spider, as well as traditional physiotherapy techniques.  The programme is a three-week long course of therapy usally comprising up to three hours of daily treatment, five days a week.  We are hoping that by taking part in the programme it will build Thomas' confidence, as well as his physical development.  Hopefully this will also have a positive effect on his speech and cognitive capabilities.

The cost of each three week programme costs from £1350 (Thomas is only having 2 hours of treatment a day).  Thomas had his first lot of treatment in November 2010 and has attended three lots of treatment since then.  He has made such excellent progress and we are now trying to raise money for him to continue his treatment.  We would also like to raise more than this for the Footsteps Foundation (http://www.footstepsfoundation.com).  Which we are hoping will enabale other children to attend this brilliant centre.

The Footsteps Foundation provides financial assistance for children to take part in The Footsteps Centre’s programme.

£45 will buy one footstep = one hour of intensive therapy
£135 will pay for a day session
£675 will allow a child to enjoy a full week’s programme
£2025 will cover a three week course (£1350 if having only 2 hours a day)
£8100 will enable a child to complete the year

To begin with we would like to raise £2700, which will allow Thomas to attend two further sessions.  We would love to go that bit further and raise additional money to help other children as well as Thomas reach their full potential.

Please see our 'One Step At A Time' web site (www.1-step-at-a-time.co.uk).

We've joined together to raise money for Thomas and the Footsteps Foundation. You'll see our team fundraising target on the right. Your donation can really help us smash this goal and help Thomas get that little bit closer to achieving his goal of walking independently with the help of the therapist at the Footsteps Centre ((http://www.footsteps.ltd.uk/).
