Run for the ocean · 10 June 2021

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is a charity set up in 1990 by people sick of seeing the ocean they love polluted. We campaign to protect the ocean and all it makes possible, by taking action on the ground that triggers change from the top. We're calling for an end to sewage and plastic pollution.

Story

From a young age I have been attracted to everything the ocean has to offer and have been lucky enough to spend much of my childhood surfing, sailing and swimming throughout Scotland’s extraordinary coastlines. Through immersing myself in the ocean for many years I have developed an inevitable care for it’s conservation.

I am now pursuing my love and interest for the ocean by studying for a degree in marine biology at the University of Glasgow. I wish to raise money for a cause that means a lot to me personally and is also indispensable to to some of the most pressing issues we are currently faced with: climate change, habitat conservation and food security.

I am embarking on a run from the English border, near Kirk Yetholm, to Cape Wrath the most north-western point of Mainland Britain. The run will incorporate parts of the most famous Scottish hiking trails such as: the West Highland Way, the Southern Upland Way and the Scottish National Trail. Leaving on the 10th of June I estimate that I will arrive at Cape Wrath two and a half weeks later on the 27th but of course terrain and weather are hard to factor, particularly in the West of Scotland!

Surfers Against Sewage are a grassroots charity devoted to ocean conservation. They are constantly carrying out campaigns such as their Million Mile Clean, aimed to mobilize 100,000 people to walk 10 miles each while cleaning the places they love. Surfers against sewage are also very politically active and have set up the only APPGs (All-Party Parliamentary Groups) dedicated to ocean conservation. This APPG works as a platform for members of the government NGOs and the public to communicate over relevant topics. If you feel that our hydrosphere is in need of protection then be assured that your donations will help us in this journey to a healthy ocean.
