The big brain tumour trek.

Story

In late 2017 our much loved dad and grandpa, Alistair James Hair, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumour.

Alistair responded well to treatment and, from an initial prognosis of 3-6 months, he enjoyed good quality of life for nearly a year. Sadly however his condition deteriorated and on 27 January 2019 he died peacefully at Marie Curie Hospice, aged 74.

The news was a huge shock and we miss him dearly.

Alistair was in excellent health and exercised daily prior to his diagnosis. He loved the outdoors.

On the golf course he played to a handicap of 6.5 (something he specifically requested be mentioned in the eulogy at his funeral) and he loved going for long walks with his wife, Sheila.

Walks along the Fife Coastal Path during our annual family holiday to Elie were a particular favourite activity of his. 'Follow the Seagulls' is a 50 mile 2 day trek along the Fife Coastal Path - it therefore seems a fitting challenge to undertake in memory of Alistair.

We are raising funds for the charity, Brainstrust, who provide personalised support and build resources that help people with a brain tumour and their loved ones live the life they want after diagnosis. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Brainstrust has seen an increase in the need for their services. You can read more about the vital work of Brainstrust at brainstrust.org.uk

Your kindness and generosity will help to ensure that Brainstrust can continue to be there for the 60,000 people affected by the devastation of a brain tumour diagnosis in the UK.

Thank you!
