Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On January 27th 2015, my Mum and our friend, Mary Townsend, sadly passed away suddenly due to aortic dissection caused by hypertension. Mum was one of the most loving, caring, friendly people you could wish to meet and the shock and sadness from losing her is unparalleled to anything I have ever been through.

However, Mum is not the type of person that would have wanted us to be sad, she is not the type of person that would want us to mope about but rather the type of person that would want us to look back at good times and smile and continue to live, laugh and enjoy life.

Mum was admitted in to Papworth Hospital on the morning of the 23rd January. From then until the minute she passed the care she received was phenomenal. For myself personally, I always remember when I last spoke to my Mum before she went for the op on that morning. It was 7am and the doctor (Mr Choo Yen Ng) was already there discussing with us the procedure of what was to happen. There were a couple of complications and the next time we were allowed to see Mum was at about 1.30am on the 24th. Dr Choo was still there, still working, and still giving us as much care as he could a full 16 hours later. We were back in hospital early the next morning, and Dr Choo was there again, giving the best possible care to my Mum, Mary.

I'll often moan if I work until 10.30pm and have to be back at work for 8am, but the Doctors here, like Dr Choo, don't stop. They keep going and they try so very hard to get the best results. They care, they're passionate, they're devoted and they are without doubt a massive reason why we should be proud, and supportive, of our NHS.

Unfortunately for us, for Mum, nothing could change what was to happen. But, despite that, the care that Papworth Hospital and it's staff gave to my Mum, and to us as a family, was second to none and all we have ever wanted to do is thank them for trying. thank them for giving us hope, for keeping us going. They are amazing.

For the past two years, a small group of us have taken on challenges, climbing Snowdon and Sca Fell Pike, in order to raise money for Papworth. The challenge we aim to undertake now is so much harder than any of them. It will be a test of our endurance, strength and fitness as we aim to climb the three highest peaks of the UK (Snowdon, Sca Fell Pike and Ben Nevis) in just 24 hours over the 2nd and 3rd June.

There will only be a small team of us, with a few designated drivers (so we can sleep in between!), and we will need all the support we can get.

If you can give anything at all, please do as it is all appreciated. I cannot explain enough how much of a good cause Papworth is and I hope we raise a great amount for them.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for any donations you give.
