Story
We are three sisters, Elizabeth, Helen & Lynne, running a 1/2 marathon together for the first time to raise awareness of Sjogren's and funds for the BSSA. Please support us!!
Sjogren's syndrome is a chronic, autoimmune rheumatic disease causing dryness of the eyes & mouth, fatigue and joint pain. 90% of the sufferers are female and it usually starts in the 40's although younger people and men can be affected too. It is a debilitating and distressing condition which is often undiagnosed and under-treated.
Elizabeth - I am a rheumatologist with a special interest in Sjogren's syndrome and have been involved with the BSSA for some years. I know how hard the BSSA works supporting patients, funding research and raising awareness amongst Health Professionals and the public.
Helen - I work in Education and have always had an interest in Sport. I am going to make sure my sisters do their training and encourage them to keep going and not give up!
Lynne - I am a GP. The BSSA is keen to raise awareness of this condition amongst GPs and I am going to use this 1/2 marathon to spread the word and raise funds at the same time.
Lynne suggested we style ourselves on the 'Spice Girls' - so Posh, Sporty & Baby - guess which one is which!!
